Chapter 14: The Full Circle**
A year later, Emily received an unexpected official letter from the state department of corrections. Victoria Vance had submitted an application for early parole and requested a victim-impact reconciliation meeting.
Emily visited the state correctional facility on a quiet Tuesday morning. Sitting across from Victoria through the visitor partition, Emily saw a completely transformed woman. Victoria’s manicured glamour was gone, replaced by simple prison blues and worn, humble eyes.
"Why did you agree to see me?" Victoria asked quietly, her voice trembling.
"Because I wanted to make sure you understood something," Emily replied gently. "I never hated you, Victoria. I only hated the cruelty you represented."
Victoria lowered her head, weeping silently. "I spent my entire life believing people like you were beneath me. But sitting in this cell, I realized you were freer as a maid than I ever was behind all my money. I’m truly sorry for what I tried to do to you."
