Chapter 3: The Threat**

The next morning, Emily walked to the local transit station to run an errand for her mother’s prescription. The humid city air smelled of rain and exhaust. As she rounded a quiet corner near the park, a sleek black sedan pulled alongside the curb.
The tinted window rolled down. Victoria sat in the back, wearing oversized dark sunglasses.
"Get in, Emily," Victoria commanded through clenched teeth.
"No, Mrs. Vance. Leave me alone, or I'll call the police," Emily replied firmly, clutching her purse.
Victoria sneered, leaning closer to the window. "Listen to me, you little insect. Julian thinks he’s a savior, but he doesn't control the Vance board. My father founded half those corporations. If you show up on Friday with those forged files, I will make sure your family’s clinic back home is shut down permanently. Do you understand the connections my family has?"
Emily felt a cold chill run down her spine, but she held Victoria’s icy glare. "My mother taught me that fear only works on people who have something to hide. You're the one who is terrified, Victoria."
Victoria slammed her palm against the leather seat. "You'll regret this!"
