Six months passed. Gabriel was now a toddler, taking his first tentative steps across the wooden floorboards of the cottage. His touch remained extraordinary, capable of bringing deep emotional peace and soothing physical pain, but Thomas and Leo kept him close, shielding him from the outside world.
However, Marcus had not given up. His condition had deteriorated severely over the months, leaving him bedridden and desperate. He had hired private investigators to track every station wagon registered to Thomas, eventually locating their sanctuary in St. Jude.
On a cold autumn morning, three luxury black SUVs rolled into the sleepy fishing village, disrupting the morning peace.
Marcus sat in the backseat of the lead vehicle, hooked up to a portable oxygen machine. His face was pale, his eyes sunken, but filled with a fierce, manic determination.
