CHAPTER 11: The True Gift

Gabriel wriggled out of Leo’s grip and stepped forward on his small legs. The security guards reached for their holsters instinctively, but Thomas raised a hand, his calm presence halting them in their tracks.
Gabriel walked slowly up to Marcus. The child showed no fear of the dark suit, the breathing apparatus, or the harsh demeanor of the dying billionaire.
Gabriel reached out his small, chubby hand and gently rested it against Marcus’s pale cheek.
Marcus winced, expecting a jolt of pain, or perhaps a sudden miraculous surge of physical vitality. But no physical miracle occurred. His heart did not magically repair itself; his breathing did not instantly become effortless.

For the first time in his life, the relentless noise of greed, fear, ambition, and anger inside Marcus’s mind fell silent. A profound wave of peace washed over him. He saw his life clearly—all the bridges he had burned, the people he had hurt, and the hollow emptiness of his wealth. Tears streamed down Marcus’s sunken cheeks as he broke down, weeping openly like a child.
