CHAPTER 10: The Confrontation

Marcus was helped out of the car by two security guards, struggling to take each breath. He leaned heavily on his cane, looking at Thomas with a mix of envy and hatred.

“You look healthy, Thomas,” Marcus sneered, his voice hoarse. “You kept this gift all to yourself while I suffered.”

“I didn't keep anything, Marcus,” Thomas replied calmly, stepping between Marcus and the boys. “Healing isn't a weapon to be hoarded, nor is it something you can demand with money or force.”

“Give me the child!” Marcus demanded, his guards taking a step forward. “I have billions! I can build hospitals, fund research—I can do so much good if I live!”

“You don't want to do good, Marcus,” Leo spoke up, taking a bold step forward next to Thomas. “You’re just afraid to die.”

The statement hit Marcus like a physical blow. The wealthy man froze, looking at the young boy whose eyes held no hatred, only a profound, heartbreaking pity.

“What do you know about death, boy?” Marcus whispered, his strength failing him as he sank to one knee, coughing harshly.
