CHAPTER 12: A Change of Heart

“I’m sorry…” Marcus sobbed, pressing his forehead against the earth. “I’m so sorry…”

Gabriel patted Marcus’s head gently, babbling a soft, comforting sound.

The security guards stood frozen, astonished to see their ruthless employer broken down in tears, completely transformed not by force, but by an overwhelming sense of forgiveness and peace.

Marcus looked up at Thomas, his eyes clear of the desperation that had consumed him for months.

“He didn't cure my body,” Marcus whispered, breathing heavily but without panic. “He healed my soul. I’m not afraid anymore.”

Thomas knelt beside Marcus, placing a hand on the man’s shoulder. “Sometimes, the real miracle isn't living forever, Marcus. It’s learning how to make peace with the life we have, and using whatever time we have left to do good.”

Marcus nodded slowly. He looked at Gabriel, then at Leo, and finally at Thomas.

“I won't bother you ever again,” Marcus said quietly. “In fact… I will make sure no one ever bothers you again.”
