Chapter 3 - The Uninvited Witness

A tall figure stepped out from the shadows of the arched entryway, casting a long, commanding silhouette across the white marble floor. The murmurs of the wedding guests died down instantly, replaced by a suffocating, heavy silence. The newcomer wore an impeccably tailored charcoal suit that commanded immediate authority, and his piercing gray eyes swept over the scene with an intensity that made Eleanor Vance instantly straighten her posture. It was Julian Sterling, the elusive senior partner of Sterling & Associates and the primary financial auditor for every major corporate conglomerate in the state.

Julian’s gaze lingered for a long, uncomfortable moment on the shattered dessert plate, then shifted slowly to the crumpled legal document still clutched in Vivienne’s fist. A faint, knowing smirk touched the corner of his mouth as he stepped past the trembling stack of wrapped wedding gifts.

"It seems," Julian said, his baritone voice echoing smoothly through the cavernous ballroom, "that there is a slight misunderstanding regarding who actually holds the controlling shares of Vance Global Holdings."

Harrison’s confident smirk faltered for a fraction of a second before he quickly recovered, pasting on a practiced, oily smile as he extended a hand toward the powerful auditor.

"Ah, Julian. Welcome. I trust the security detail escorted you in properly," Harrison said, his tone dripping with forced camaraderie. "We were just handling a minor domestic disruption. Nothing for a man of your stature to worry about."

Julian ignored Harrison’s outstretched hand entirely, walking right past him as if he were nothing more than a piece of furniture. He stopped three feet away from Vivienne, offering a polite, respectful nod to the pale, shaken woman. He looked down briefly at young Leo, his expression softening just a fraction before he turned his piercing eyes back toward Eleanor and Harrison.

"Domestic disruption?" Julian repeated, raising a single dark eyebrow. "Mr. Vance, my firm was brought in forty-eight hours ago to audit the emergency asset transfers of this estate. What I found wasn't a domestic dispute. It was systematic corporate fraud, engineered to illegally strip Mrs. Vivienne Vance of her rightful fifty-one percent majority stake."

Eleanor’s face drained of all color, her manicured fingers digging frantically into the pearls around her neck. "That is an outrageous lie! The auditor's reports were certified by the board months ago!"

"The board was dissolved under false pretenses last Tuesday, Mrs. Vance," Julian replied smoothly, pulling a crisp leather-bound folio from his jacket. "And I have the original, un-tamered signatures right here."

Harrison lunged forward, his face flushed with sudden panic, his hand reaching out to snatch the folio from Julian's grasp.
