Chapter 14 - The Final Confession

The tiny microcassette recorder sat in the center of the opulent boardroom like a ticking time bomb. Marcus stared down at the plastic device, his hands trembling violently as the collective gaze of every board member locked onto him with sudden, hostile suspicion. Victoria tried to push back her chair and slip toward the exit, but two private security guards hired by Julian stepped out from the shadows of the double doors, blocking her path with unyielding resolve.
"Play it," an elderly board member demanded, his voice trembling with righteous fury. "Play the tape, Julian."
Julian pressed the play button. Once again, Elena’s clear, resolute voice filled the grand boardroom, detailing the corporate betrayal, the poison, and the offshore accounts hidden behind the biometric vault settings. When the tape clicked off, the silence in the room was absolute and suffocating.
Marcus slammed his hands down on the mahogany table, his face contorting with rage. "It's a forgery! Fabricated audio! You can't trust a grieving madman and a hired nanny off the street!"
"The offshore accounts aren't fabricated," a calm, crisp voice spoke from the doorway.
Everyone turned to see federal agents in dark suits stepping into the boardroom, led by a senior investigator holding a thick stack of unsealed federal warrants. The lead agent flashed a gold badge directly at Marcus.
"Marcus Sterling, Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for corporate espionage, financial fraud, and the premeditated murder of Elena Sterling," the agent announced, his voice echoing off the glass walls.
Panic erupted in the boardroom as chairs scraped backward and shouting broke out. Victoria burst into frantic, ugly tears as the handcuffs clicked tightly around her delicate wrists. Marcus lunged forward toward Julian in a blind fury, but Julian didn't even flinch. With a single, fluid motion, he sidestepped his cousin and delivered a sharp, decisive strike that sent Marcus crashing hard against the mahogany table, pinning him there until federal agents swarmed him and brought him to the floor.
Clara stood near the entrance, holding little Lily tightly against her shoulder, watching the wreckage of the empire crumble in real-time.

Julian turned away from the chaos, walking slowly across the polished granite floor toward her. The harsh corporate lights caught the jagged scar on his cheek, but his eyes were softer than Clara had ever seen them before.
