Chapter 13 - Dawn of Reckoning

The morning sun broke over the Manhattan skyline, casting long, sharp shadows across the polished granite floors of the Sterling Global headquarters. The seventy-fifth-floor boardroom was packed with senior executives, lawyers, and board members dressed in immaculate tailored suits. At the center of the mahogany table sat Marcus, flanked by a nervous-looking Victoria, who kept checking her expensive gold watch with mounting anxiety.

"The emergency vote to liquidate the estate and transfer guardianship to Marcus is now open," Victoria announced, her voice ringing clearly through the tense room. "Since Julian is currently a fugitive from justice..."

The heavy double doors at the end of the boardroom suddenly swung open with a resounding bang.

Every head in the room snapped toward the entrance. Julian strode into the room with an aura of absolute, unstoppable authority. He wore his black blazer over a clean black shirt, the scar on his cheek stark in the morning light. But it wasn't Julian that made the entire board gasp in collective shock—it was the woman walking beside him.

Clara stood tall and composed, wearing her simple beige cardigan over her white top, carrying little Lily in her arms. Lily was awake now, wearing her pink pajamas, sucking her thumb peacefully as she looked around the opulent room with wide, curious eyes. And gleaming brightly on Clara’s left ring finger was the unmistakable diamond of the late matriarch.

"You're out of order, Julian!" Marcus roared, leaping to his feet and pointing an accusing finger. "Security! Remove these intruders immediately! That woman is a common thief!"

"Sit down, Marcus," Julian’s voice echoed like thunder through the cavernous boardroom, silencing the room instantly. "You don't have the authority to give orders here anymore."

Victoria’s face drained of all color as she stared at the diamond ring. "How... how did you get out of the mountains? The cleaner said—"

"The cleaner failed," Julian interrupted coldly, stepping up to the edge of the mahogany table. He placed a small microcassette recorder right in front of Marcus’s trembling hands. "And now, the board is going to listen to a very interesting message from my late wife."
