Chapter 3 - The Price of Silence

Maya’s words cut through the tense silence of the office like a razor blade. "It isn’t just Julian, Principal Vance. It’s the entire disciplinary committee."

The principal’s face drained of what little color remained. He half-stood from his leather chair, slamming his palms onto the desk. "That is a severe and baseless accusation, young lady. You have no proof of institutional misconduct."

Arthur’s gaze snapped back to Maya, softening imperceptibly before hardening back into industrial steel. He straightened up, towering over the principal. "Sit down," Arthur commanded quietly. It wasn't a request; it was a physical law.

Principal Vance slowly sank back into his chair, beads of sweat catching the fluorescent light. "Maya, think about your future. Making enemies here will ensure you never graduate with honors."

"My future was stolen the night your contractor cut corners on the science lab renovation," Maya replied, her voice remarkably steady. "The stairs had no contrast strips. The handrails were loose. I fell. And your administration made me sign a non-disclosure agreement before allowing me to transfer here with a scholarship."

Arthur placed a heavy, reassuring hand on Maya’s shoulder. The touch grounded her, banishing the cold phantom pain of her missing eye. "You had her sign an NDA?" Arthur asked, his voice dropping into a register so quiet it made the air in the room feel heavy. "You forced a sixteen-year-old child to legally gag herself regarding your criminal building code violations?"

The principal opened his mouth, but no sound came out. The paper trail was buried deep within the archives, locked behind digital passwords and secure folders that only he and the board chairman possessed. Or so he thought.

Arthur reached into his suit jacket, withdrew a sleek silver flash drive, and placed it squarely in the center of the desk. "This contains the complete financial audit of your school's structural safety funds, including the offshore accounts where Julian’s father funneled the hush money."

Principal Vance stared at the small metal object as if it were a live grenade. "Where... how did you get that?"

"I don't just own shares in this institution, Principal," Arthur said, leaning in close. "I own the land it's built on. Now, call an emergency board meeting."
