Chapter 11 - Federal Intervention

The elevator doors slid open to reveal three men in dark tactical windbreakers stamped with federal insignia, accompanied by two armed local officers. The leading agent, a sharp-eyed woman with silver-streaked hair and an uncompromising expression, stepped out into the ruined foyer, her gaze sweeping over the shattered glass and the tense group standing before her.

"Arthur Vance?" the agent asked, her voice cutting cleanly through the silence.

Arthur slowly lowered the tablet he was holding, his posture straightening back into a mask of stoic control, though his eyes remained fixed on the digital ledger still glowing on the screen. "I am Arthur Vance. To what do we owe the federal intrusion at this hour?"

The agent flashed a leather-bound badge. "Special Agent Vance—no relation, I assure you. We have a federal warrant to secure all digital and physical assets associated with Vance Global Holdings, pending an investigation into corporate malfeasance, insider trading, and obstruction of justice."

Marcus Sterling smirked, stepping back toward the elevator as if expecting to be escorted out as a cooperating witness. "You see, Arthur? The empire falls from the top. You thought you could bury everyone else, but the ground beneath you was already hollow."

Special Agent Vance didn't even glance at Marcus. She flicked her wrist, signaling the two armed officers behind her. "Take Mr. Sterling into custody as well. His cooperation doesn't grant him immunity from federal conspiracy charges."

Marcus’s smirk instantly vanished. "What? You can't arrest me! I'm the one who brought you the evidence!"

"You brought us a tampered data drive in an attempt to leverage a plea deal," the agent replied coldly, gesturing to the officers. "Cuff him."

As Marcus was dragged protesting toward the service elevator, the remaining federal agents moved past Arthur and into the penthouse, setting up portable terminals on the mahogany coffee table and sealing the perimeter.

Maya stood motionless near the sofa, her white cane resting against her skirt. Her mind was racing, trying to process the avalanche of revelations. The accident, the cover-up, the betrayal within her father’s own company—it was all connected in a vast, toxic web of corporate greed and human collateral.

Arthur walked slowly toward his daughter, ignoring the federal agents moving around them. He stopped a few inches away, his hands hovering uncertainly as if he were afraid to touch her.

"Maya," he began, his voice breaking slightly. "You need to leave. My legal team will take you to the safe house in Vermont tonight. You shouldn't have to witness any of this."

Maya raised her head, adjusting her eye patch with a steady, deliberate movement. She looked directly at her father, her lone visible eye burning with fierce clarity.

"I’m not running away anymore, Dad," Maya said, her voice ringing clear across the chaotic penthouse. "If we’re going to burn this entire system to the ground, I’m staying right here to watch the ashes fall."

Special Agent Vance paused in her work, looking over at the young girl with a mixture of professional surprise and deep respect. She walked over, holding a secure encrypted tablet in her hands, and tapped the screen.

"Mr. Vance," the agent said quietly. "If your daughter stays, she needs to see this. Your CFO didn't just embezzle funds. He’s currently boarding a private jet out of JFK airport, and he has the original hard drive containing the truth about your wife's accident."
