Chapter 14: The Final Confrontation

Marcus stopped ten feet away from Arthur, the heavy metal lockbox feeling like an anchor in his hand. He looked past Arthur toward the black sedan, where tinted windows hid whatever horrors or leverage might still be waiting inside. The tension in the air was palpable, thick enough to suffocate.
"You really think handing this box over saves you, Arthur?" Marcus asked, his voice ringing with absolute clarity across the desolate railway platform. "The cryptographic keys were automatically uploaded to federal servers the moment we left the house. You can destroy this box all you want; the audit is already out of your hands."
Arthur’s calm, arrogant demeanor shattered instantly. His face flushed with sudden, uncontrolled rage, and he lunged forward, grabbing the front of Marcus’s maroon blazer with surprising strength. "You lying little fool! You have no idea what you've destroyed!"
"Drop the weapon! Federal agents! Freeze!"
The roar of Detective Miller’s voice echoed like thunder across the abandoned depot. From behind the grain silos and broken freight cars, a dozen tactical officers surged forward with weapons drawn, flooding the platform and cutting off all escape routes. Arthur’s two bodyguards reached instinctively for their jackets, but Miller’s men were faster, forcing them to the concrete with expert precision.
Arthur froze, his hands still clutching Marcus’s blazer. He slowly looked around at the ring of federal and local officers closing in from every direction, realizing with sickening finality that his empire of corruption had finally collapsed.
"It's over, Arthur," Marcus said quietly, prying the older man’s fingers off his jacket and stepping back.

Arthur offered one last, venomous glare before the heavy steel handcuffs were snapped onto his wrists. "You may have won this house, Marcus, but the foundation was rotten long before I got here."
"Not anymore," Marcus replied firmly as the officers escorted Arthur toward a waiting patrol cruiser.
