Chapter 3: The Penthouse Confrontation

Up on the fourteenth floor, the penthouse suite was engulfed in a storm of accusations.
""You lied to me, Damian!"" Vanessa shrieked, throwing her satin evening bag onto the king-sized bed. ""My father invested twenty million dollars into your green-grid initiative because he believed you were an eligible, respectable partner for our family brand!""
Damian stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass wall, looking down at the rainy streets of Manhattan. His phone was buzzing relentlessly on the console, but he didn't care.
""I didn't lie about the separation,"" Damian said hollowly. ""We signed the preliminary papers. But the court never entered the final decree. Lucia disappeared before the final hearing. I thought she went back to her family in Andalusia.""
""And instead, she’s carrying your child and pushing service carts in the very hotel where we’re hosting tomorrow's investor dinner!"" Vanessa scoffed, crossing her arms. ""Do you have any idea what this looks like? If the press gets hold of this, your IPO is dead on arrival.""
Damian turned slowly, looking at Vanessa as if seeing her clearly for the first time. The flawless makeup, the perfectly calculated dress, the perpetual anxiety about press coverage and public perception—it was everything he had chased for the last two years. He had traded the warmth of a genuine home for the cold prestige of an empire built on glass.
""She’s pregnant, Vanessa,"" Damian said quietly. ""My child is growing in her, and she’s working night shifts on her feet.""
""Then write her a check!"" Vanessa snapped. ""Give her a million dollars to sign an NDA and move to another state. That’s how these things are handled!""
Damian looked at Vanessa, then down at his own manicured hands. The realization hit him like a physical blow: he had become a man who measured human souls in financial transactions.
""Get out, Vanessa,"" Damian said, his voice flat and unyielding.
""What did you just say?""
May you like
""I said get out of my suite.""
