Chapter 1: The Shattered Porcelain**

The air in the marble foyer turned ice-cold. Officer Miller took a deliberate step forward, the heavy leather of his duty belt creaking under the weight of standard protocol. Behind him, two additional officers took positions by the double doors, cutting off the exit.
Julian didn’t lower his arm. His finger remained pointed squarely at his mother, Eleanor Vance. His chest heaved against the crisp weave of his navy blazer, every breath ragged with betrayal. Beside him, Clara trembled, her knuckles white as she cradled four-month-old Leo against her shoulder. The faint smell of burnt wax from the discarded pink cake lingered, mixing sickeningly with the expensive floral perfume Eleanor wore like armor.
"Officers, this is an absurd misunderstanding," Eleanor said smoothly, her voice regaining its polished, aristocratic veneer. She set her crystal wine glass onto the mahogany console table with a sharp, delicate clink. Her diamond teardrop necklace caught the chandelier light, glittering like shards of ice. "My daughter-in-law had a minor fall down the patio stairs. My son is simply hysterical."
"She didn't fall, Eleanor," Clara whispered. The words were quiet, but they cut through the room with razor sharpness. She tilted her chin slightly, exposing the fresh purple contusions blooming across her cheekbone and the split edge of her lip. "Tell them what you said. Tell them what you demanded before you took the baby from my arms."
Officer Miller opened the manila folder in his hands, pulling out a stamped legal document. "Mrs. Eleanor Vance, we aren't here for a domestic dispute call. We are here executing a protective injunction and an emergency restraining order filed two hours ago by your son."
Eleanor’s mask cracked. Her eyes widened, flicking to Julian in disbelief. "Julian... you wouldn't dare."

"I should have done this the day we brought Leo home," Julian replied, his voice deadly quiet. "Pack your things, Mother. You're leaving my family alone."
