Chapter 5: The Gala of Truth

The ballroom sparkled with diamonds and flashbulbs. Over two hundred elites—judges, politicians, foreign dignitaries, and financiers—mingled beneath the towering chandeliers, eager to hear Dante's keynote speech. They saw him as an untouchable titan, a man whose word dictated markets and whose silence commanded fear.
Dante stepped up to the mahogany podium on the raised dais. The room immediately fell silent, the chatter dissolving into eager anticipation.
He didn't bring notes. He stood before the crowd, his gaze sweeping across the room until it landed on Maria standing at the back, holding Chiara in her arms.
""Ladies and gentlemen,"" Dante began, his deep voice carrying clearly over the high-end sound system. ""For the past ten years, this foundation has gathered your donations, polished our collective reputations, and disguised our greed as philanthropy.""
A collective murmur rippled through the audience. Journalists quickly adjusted their cameras.
""We hide our sins behind black-tie events and gilded ceilings,"" Dante continued, unfazed. ""We tell ourselves that power protects the innocent. But power built on lies only destroys the ones we are supposed to shield.""
He paused, loosening the black bowtie at his neck and unbuttoning the top button of his tuxedo shirt—a gesture of total disregard for the evening's formal rigidity.
""As of tonight, Dante Enterprises ceases its current operations. All assets will be transitioned into full public transparency, focused entirely on medical care and shelter for orphaned children in conflict zones. I resign all executive control.""
Gasps echoed across the room. Several prominent board members rose from their seats in outrage.
Dante ignored them completely. He stepped down from the dais, walked straight through the parting crowd of shocked elites, and stopped in front of Maria.
He reached out and took Chiara into his arms. The toddler looked around at the glittering crowd, then rested her head against Dante's lapel, yawning softly.
""Let's go home, Chiara,"" Dante said.
