Chapter 5 - The Uninvited Guest

The sudden commotion shattered the fragile peace of the study. Victor’s head snapped toward the heavy oak doors, his expression instantly hardening into a mask of lethal readiness. Elena instinctively drew the sleeping baby closer to her chest, her eyes widening with fresh alarm as the sound of a scuffle escalated in the grand hallway.
"Stay here," Victor commanded in a low, authoritative tone, bypassing his desk to retrieve a heavy brass key from a hidden drawer. He unlocked a discreet wall panel, revealing a slim wall safe, though he did not open it. Instead, he reached for the ornate brass handle of the study door, pulling it open just enough to survey the chaos outside.
In the brightly lit foyer, chaos had erupted. Clara was no longer the composed socialite in the bright blue dress; her hair was disheveled, her designer handbag was ripped open on the marble floor, and her black high heels were missing, leaving her standing in her stocking feet. Two security guards were struggling to physically restrain her as she fought like a cornered animal, screaming obscenities that echoed off the vaulted ceiling.
"Let me go, you oversized thugs!" Clara shrieked, thrashing violently against the guards' grip. "This is my house! Victor! VICTOR, GET OUT HERE AND TELL THESE ANIMALS WHO I AM!"
Victor stepped out into the hallway, the sheer gravity of his presence instantly dampening the volume of Clara's screams. He walked slowly toward her, his black suit looking like a shroud of absolute authority against the opulent background. The guards immediately straightened up, keeping their firm holds on Clara’s arms.
"You are making a scene, Clara," Victor said, his voice cutting through her frantic breathing like a scalpel. "And you are trespassing on property that no longer belongs to your jurisdiction."
"Jurisdiction?" Clara laughed hysterically, her eyes wild and bloodshot. "I gave you the heir you wanted! I built this family's social standing with my bare hands! You think you can just throw me out like a piece of garbage because of a crying brat and a meddling maid?"
She glared past Victor, spotting Elena standing safely in the doorway of the study with the baby still cradled in her arms. A look of pure, venomous hatred flashed across Clara’s face, so intense that even the security guards tightened their grip in anticipation of another sudden lunge.
"That little whore is going to ruin everything you’ve built, Victor!" Clara screamed, her voice cracking as she fought against the restraints. "And you’re handing her the keys to your kingdom!"
Victor stepped directly into Clara’s line of sight, blocking her view of Elena completely. He leaned in close, his face inches from hers, so cold that his breath formed a faint mist in the cool air of the foyer.
"The only thing being ruined here, Clara, is the illusion you maintained for three years," Victor whispered, ensuring only she could hear. "And you haven't seen the half of what I found in your private financial files yet."

Clara stopped thrashing. The color drained from her face entirely, replaced by a look of sheer, unadulterated terror that she couldn't hide.
