CHAPTER 2: The Severed Ties

The backlash was instant and deafening. Within three hours, the grand chapel had emptied, the white floral arches were disassembled, and the society tabloids had erupted with explosive headlines. The billionaire heir of Sterling Capital had abandoned his aristocratic bride at the threshold of the manor.
In the private study, the air was thick with the scent of old mahogany and tension. Victoria’s father, Senator Richard Vance, slammed his heavy palm down on Julian’s mahogany desk.
"You have humiliated my daughter and jeopardized a multi-billion-dollar logistics merger over a maid's illegitimate child!" Vance roared, his face flushed red. "Do you have any idea what this does to our stock value tomorrow morning?"
Julian stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the autumn leaves drift across the vast estate lawns. "Valentina is not a business variable, Senator. She is my daughter."
"A child you didn't even know existed five minutes ago!" Vance leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. "Sign the settlement. Send that woman and her brat to a secluded cottage in another state with a monthly allowance, marry Victoria by tomorrow evening, and we can spin this as a private family reconciliation. If you don't, I will use every regulatory committee at my disposal to bury Sterling Capital."
Julian slowly turned around. He looked at the powerful politician who had built his career on image and ruthless leverage.
"You're welcome to try, Richard," Julian replied, his voice chillingly composed. "Security will escort you to your vehicle now."
