Chapter 3: The Ghost in the Ledger**

While Lily slept under the heavy quilts of the master bedroom, Victoria spread dozens of encrypted flash drives and printed bank manifests across the dining table. The pale blue glow of her laptop screen illuminated the dark circles under her eyes.

Victoria was not merely a mother who had lost custody; she was the chief forensic architect who had designed the Sterling Foundation’s offshore infrastructure a decade ago before realizing it was a front for human exploitation and illicit political bribes. When she had tried to blow the whistle, Arthur Sterling had framed her, stripped her of her assets, and systematically alienated her child through paid judges.

Her burner phone buzzed against the raw pine wood. The caller ID showed a single digit: *7*.

"Speak," Victoria answered.

"The warrant on Julianna was blocked by a state magistrate twenty minutes ago," Agent Marcus Vance said from the other end. His voice was laced with static and exhaustion. "Arthur’s legal team filed an emergency habeas corpus petition. They’re claiming you kidnapped Lily from a legally appointed foster guardian."

Victoria didn't curse or raise her voice. She simply leaned back, her jaw tightening. "They’re using Judge Henderson. He’s on the payroll from the Grand Cayman routing accounts."

"He already signed the retrieval order," Vance warned. "A private security contractor—Blackwatch—has been dispatched to your last known quadrant. Victoria, they aren't coming to arrest you. Arthur wants the ledger you took from the safe. If they find you, they won't leave witnesses."

Victoria closed the laptop with a quiet, decisive snap. "Then we move before dawn."
