Chapter 7 - The Final Signature

The heavy metal tip of the pen hovered over the dotted line of the confession document. Julian’s hand trembled so violently that the black ink pooled against the paper before the nib even made contact.
"I won't sign it," Julian snarled, dropping the pen onto the table and glaring up at his father. "You can put me in a cage, but the moment my name is dragged through the mud, the entire global market will crash. Sterling Global’s stock will plummet forty percent before the opening bell tomorrow!"
Rebecca leaned forward, her elbows resting on the table, her dark eyes locking onto his with terrifying clarity.
"Let it crash," she whispered.
Julian blinked, dumbfounded by her audacity.
"Are you insane? That's your inheritance too! That's billions of dollars in valuation wiped out overnight!"
"Money can always be rebuilt, Julian," Arthur interjected, his voice steady as a monolith. "But a cancer must be excised completely, no matter how much blood it costs the body."
Rebecca slowly reached out and picked up the pen, sliding it back into Julian’s paralyzed fingers. She wrapped her own hand over his, applying firm, unyielding pressure until the pen pressed hard against the paper.
"Sign the confession, Julian," Rebecca whispered into his ear, her breath cold and sharp. "Or I release the second folder—the one detailing how you funneled company funds into the illegal offshore accounts of the international cartel that financed your personal lifestyle."
Julian froze. The color vanished entirely from his face, leaving him looking like a corpse. The cartel. He had thought that secret was buried deeper than the ocean floor, hidden behind encrypted layers of dark-web proxies. If the federal government—or worse, the cartel itself—found out he had leaked their financial pathways to save his own skin, prison would be the safest place he could possibly hide. With a sickening shudder, Julian lowered his head and frantically scribbled his signature across the dotted line, his handwriting jagged and unreadable.
Marcus Vance, standing quietly by the observation window in the corridor, watched the signature go through on his tablet. He pressed a master sync button, transmitting the legally binding confession directly to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice simultaneously. Within seconds, the official digital seal locked the document into the immutable public ledger, making it impossible to retract or contest.
"It's done," Arthur said quietly, turning his back on his son and walking toward the interrogation room door without looking back once.
Rebecca lingered for a moment longer, watching the federal guards step forward to haul Julian back to his holding cell. She straightened the lapels of her charcoal blazer, her expression devoid of triumph, replaced instead by the heavy burden of a restored empire.
As the guards yanked Julian to his feet, he twisted around in a last, desperate burst of venom, spitting a final warning across the room.

"You think you've won the throne, Rebecca? Take a look at the board of directors right now; they aren't your allies... and someone close to you just sold your master encryption keys to the highest bidder."
