Chapter 6 - The Confession Tape

The interrogation room of the federal precinct smelled of cheap disinfectant and stale coffee. A single fluorescent bulb buzzed overhead, casting a harsh, flickering glow over the metal table where Julian sat in handcuffs, his expensive tuxedo now wrinkled and stained with mud. The heavy steel door swung open with a loud metallic echo, and Rebecca walked in, wearing a sharp charcoal blazer over her black slip dress. She didn't sit down immediately; she stood behind the opposite chair, resting her hands on the cold metal and staring down at her disgraced brother with a gaze as cold as winter ice.

"You look terrible, Julian," Rebecca said evenly, her voice devoid of any warmth or mockery.

"Get me my lawyer," Julian spat, straining against the handcuffs until the metal bit painfully into his wrists. "You can't hold me here. This is an illegal abduction!"

Rebecca finally pulled the chair back and sat down, sliding a thick manila folder across the table between them.

"Your lawyer dropped you twenty minutes ago, Julian," she replied calmly. "Along with your Swiss bankers, your offshore fixers, and the board of directors who finally watched the unedited garage footage."

Julian’s face drained of what little color remained, but he forced a desperate, mocking laugh.

"You think this tape ruins me? Father is old, he’s dying, Rebecca! The moment he breathes his last breath, the board will vote me back in out of sheer necessity because none of them know how to run the logistics network!"

The door opened again, and an older man walked in, moving slowly without his cane. Arthur Sterling stood tall, his posture rigid, his flinty eyes boring straight into his son's soul. The sight of the patriarch made Julian choke on his own breath; the frail, bedridden illusion had been a complete fabrication designed to draw the rats out of the woodwork.

"You never understood the logistics of leadership, Julian," Arthur spoke, his voice deep and resonant. "Leadership isn't about manipulating balance sheets or framing your blood. It’s about accountability."

"You set me up!" Julian screamed, finally losing his fragile composure as he slammed his cuffed hands onto the metal table, rattling the coffee mugs. "You and this ungrateful bitch planned this from the very beginning!"

"We gave you enough rope to hang yourself," Rebecca corrected him softly, opening the folder to reveal a signed confession form detailing the embezzlement, the offshore accounts, and the cover-up of the CFO's murder. "And you wove the noose with absolute perfection."

Julian stared at the confession document, his chest heaving as he realized every escape route had been systematically blocked. There were no proxies left to bribe, no shell companies left to hide behind, and no allies left to call. He was entirely alone, trapped in the very trap he had spent three years building for his sister.

"Sign it," Arthur commanded, sliding a pen across the table. "It’s the only dignity you have left."

May you like

Julian’s hand shook violently as his fingers wrapped around the barrel of the pen. He looked up, his eyes bloodshot and filled with venom, ready to utter a final curse that would burn the family legacy to the ground.
