Chapter 2 - The Cayman Ledger

Julian stared at the heavy manila envelope resting on the polished marble floor, his fingers twitching instinctively toward the stem of his champagne glass.
"Open it," Rebecca whispered, her tone chillingly calm.
"You think a bluff like this will ruin me in front of the board?" Julian muttered through clenched teeth.
"It isn't a bluff, Julian," Rebecca replied, tilting her chin up. "It’s your indictment."
Arthur Sterling watched them from beneath heavy, silver brows, leaning heavily on his carved ebony cane. The patriarch of Sterling Global didn't say a word, allowing the unbearable tension in the ballroom to suffocate his panicked son. Julian slowly knelt, his tuxedo trousers pulling tight against his knees, and broke the red wax seal of the envelope. Inside lay printed wire transfers, signed authorizations, and digital hashes tracing three million dollars directly from Sterling Global’s humanitarian relief fund into a shell company registered under Julian's personal alias in the Cayman Islands. His breath hitched in his throat, and a cold sweat broke out across his forehead. He realized too late that Rebecca hadn't just returned to reclaim her corporate throne; she had returned with an executioner's axe. The surrounding elite murmured among themselves, craning their necks to catch a glimpse of the disgraced executive's panic. Julian stood up abruptly, crumpling the documents in his fist, but the damage was already irreversible.
"This is a forgery," Julian shouted, his voice echoing loudly against the vaulted ceiling. "She manufactured these documents to steal the succession!"
"Manufactured?" Arthur’s voice boomed across the silent room, cutting through Julian’s desperate lies like a razor blade. "I personally signed the forensic audit yesterday morning, Julian. Every single page of it."
Julian spun around to face his father, absolute betrayal flashing in his eyes. He had spent a decade kissing the old man's feet, managing hostile takeovers, and burying corporate scandals, only to be discarded the moment his sister reappeared from the shadows. Arthur turned his back on his son, gesturing for Rebecca to follow him toward the private elevator at the end of the grand hall. The security guards snapped to attention, opening the heavy mahogany doors without a second thought. Rebecca walked past Julian, her shoulder lightly brushing against his tuxedo jacket. She paused just before stepping inside the elevator car, turning her head slightly to meet his shattered gaze with cold, absolute indifference.
"Enjoy the rest of the party, brother," Rebecca murmured softly. "Tomorrow morning, the federal investigators arrive."

The elevator doors slid shut with a heavy, metallic thud, sealing them inside. Julian lunged forward, slamming his fists against the closed brass doors, but they didn't budge. Panting heavily, he spun back around to face the ballroom, only to find every single investor, board member, and socialite staring at him with undisguised disgust. Slowly, they began to step backward, forming a wide, empty circle around him as if he carried a contagious plague. He reached into his pocket for his smartphone to call his legal team, but his hands shook so violently he dropped the device onto the floor, the screen shattering into a spiderweb of cracks.
