Chapter 13 - The Silicon Trap

The heavy steel security shutters slammed down simultaneously across every exit of the subterranean loading bay, locking with a deafening metallic echo that vibrated through the concrete floor. Agent Miller rushed forward, kicking his boot against the primary rolling shutter, but it didn't budge an inch.
"He wasn't bluffing," Miller cursed, spinning around to face Thomas, who was still pinned to the floor by two tactical officers. "The building’s entire physical security grid has been rerouted to an external server."
Rebecca wiped a streak of blood from her lip, her dark eyes flashing with intense focus. She ignored the pain in her jaw and walked quickly toward the emergency override terminal mounted on the concrete pillar beside the shutter. The screen was flashing a bright, pulsing amber warning code: SYSTEM LOCKOUT: PROTOCOL OMEGA ACTIVE.
"It's not an external server," Rebecca said tightly, her fingers flying across the physical keyboard with blinding speed. "It's an internal fail-safe built directly into the foundation's mainframe."
Arthur stepped up beside her, leaning heavily against the console as he stared at the cascading lines of code. "Protocol Omega... I haven't seen that code since the day we integrated the old logistics network forty years ago. Only two people ever knew the master bypass sequence: myself... and your mother."
Rebecca’s heart hammered against her ribs. She remembered the fragile pages of her mother’s journal she had been reading just before the alarm sounded. Her mother hadn't just been a silent partner in Sterling Global; she had been the brilliant software architect who designed the company's entire digital backbone—and she had built a hidden kill-switch designed to detonate the entire corporate infrastructure if the company ever fell into corrupt hands.
"He's trying to trigger the mother-load wipe," Rebecca muttered, her breath catching in her throat as the countdown timer on the screen dropped from five minutes to three. "If this sequence reaches zero, every financial asset, every patent, every title deed, and every shipping manifest Sterling Global owns will be permanently scrubbed from every server on the planet."
Thomas let out a loud, mocking laugh from where he was being held by the officers. "You can't override it, Rebecca! Your mother designed it to be indestructible. The only way to stop the wipe is to authorize a complete liquidation of the company through a biometric signature from the founder's direct bloodline... which means either you or your father have to sign away every single share right now!"
Arthur looked down at his trembling hands, then turned his gaze toward his daughter. The choice was clear: surrender every ounce of wealth, power, and legacy they had fought their entire lives to protect, or watch the entire empire burn to absolute ash.
"Do it, Rebecca," Arthur whispered softly, his voice heavy with resignation. "Let it all go. We can survive without the empire."
Rebecca stared at the biometric scanner glowing softly beneath the terminal screen. She didn't want to destroy the legacy, but she knew her father was right—wealth meant nothing if it was built on a foundation of blood and corruption. She placed her right hand flat against the scanner glass, feeling the cold sensor calibrate to her pulse.
