Chapter 7: The Confrontation

The winter air was razor-sharp outside the gates of the Oakridge Medical Facility in upstate New York. Two black SUVs carrying Arthur, Leo, and federal investigators pulled up to the main entrance.

Inside the private wing, Richard Sterling stood near the reception desk, looking immaculate in a tailored trench coat, surrounded by his legal representatives. He had come to finalize Clara's forced relocation to another facility before the authorities could track her down.

When the glass doors slid open, Sterling turned, expecting his security team. Instead, he met the piercing gray gaze of Arthur.

""Arthur?"" Sterling sneered, though his eyes betrayed a flicker of nervousness. ""What is the meaning of this intrusion? This is a private medical facility.""

""Your ownership of this facility ends today, Richard,"" Arthur declared smoothly, stepping aside as federal officers moved past him with a federal search warrant. ""Along with your control over Clara Vance.""

Sterling’s face paled as a prosecutor stepped forward, holding a printed transcript of the decrypted flash drive. ""Richard Sterling, you are under arrest for corporate extortion, illegal confinement, and obstruction of justice.""

As the officers handcuffed Sterling, he glanced down and caught the eye of eight-year-old Leo, who stood steadfast by Arthur’s side. Leo didn't flinch or look away. He held his head high, clutching his sister's drawing in his small fist.

""You lost, Sterling,"" Arthur said quietly as the man was escorted out. ""Because you underestimated the power of a child's love.""
