Chapter 14: Passing the Torch

Back in the Lake Forest mansion, Arthur sat by the fireplace with Leo on the eve of the young man’s departure for his university residency.

Arthur slid a black velvet box across the mahogany chess table. Leo opened it to find the platinum ring Arthur had worn for decades.

"Your mother designed this," Arthur said softly. "It stood for second chances. Now it belongs to you."

"Grandpa, I don't need a ring to remember," Leo said, his voice full of emotion.

"Wear it as a reminder," Arthur insisted, sliding it onto Leo’s hand. "Never judge a person by the dirt on their clothes. The greatest treasures in this world are often hidden behind broken glass."
