Chapter 9: At the Edge of the Abyss
Adrian tackled Victor through the shattered cabin door just as the container dropped ten feet before the safety brakes caught with a violent shudder. Glass shards scattered across the metal floor as the two men wrestled in the tight space.
Victor lunged with a ceramic combat knife, slashing across Adrian’s forearm. "You destroyed a billion-dollar empire for nothing! For strangers who don't even know your name!"
"They’re human beings, Victor," Adrian gritted out, catching Victor’s wrist in an iron grip. "That makes them worth everything."
Adrian twisted the blade away, slamming Victor against the control console. With a quick, decisive strike to the nerve center in Victor’s neck, the villain slumped to the floor, unconscious. Adrian immediately engaged the hydraulic manual lock, securing the hanging container and slowly lowering it safely onto the concrete pier below.
