Chapter 10: The Sunlight Returns
Dawn broke over the New York harbor, painting the gray Atlantic in strokes of warm gold and amber. Medical teams and federal agents opened the heavy doors of Container 404.
Adrian and Julian stood side by side on the pier, wrapped in emergency blankets. They watched as mothers, fathers, and frightened children were gently guided out into the fresh morning air, wrapped in warm coats and handed food and water. A young mother, holding a little boy who looked no older than Mia, looked over at Adrian and Julian with tears of overwhelming gratitude, whispering silent blessings in a language they didn't speak, but understood completely.
Vance walked over, placing a hand on Adrian's shoulder. "Victor and twelve high-ranking officials are in federal custody. The human trafficking ring is dismantled permanently."
Julian looked at his brother, his bruised face softening into a genuine smile. "Dad would have been proud of you, Adrian."
