Adrian spent the following months visiting the community centers and legal aid clinics established with the confiscated cartel assets. He met the families who had been rescued from that dark container at the pier.
One evening, at a newly opened community center in Brooklyn, a woman named Sofia approached him. She was the mother he had seen at the docks. She held a hand-knitted woolen scarf and offered it to Adrian with two hands.
"My son, Mateo, sleeps through the night now," she said in broken English, her eyes shining with quiet dignity. "Because of you, he has a morning. He has a future."
Adrian accepted the scarf, holding it with deep humility. "It wasn't just me, Sofia. It was a promise that everyone deserves to live in the light."
