Chapter 13 - The Sterling Tower Showdown

The armored federal helicopter touched down swiftly on the illuminated rooftop helipad of the towering Sterling skyscraper, its blades kicking up swirling flurries of winter snow against the glittering backdrop of the midnight city skyline.
Julian stepped out first, shielding Evelyn against the biting wind as the federal agent and a heavily armed tactical team swarmed the rooftop access door. The heavy steel door was already blown off its hinges, smelling faintly of acrid smoke and burnt wiring.
“Move in! Secure the stairwell!” the agent barked into his comm-link as they descended rapidly down the concrete service stairs toward the executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor.
The atmosphere inside the stairwell grew increasingly tense with every floor they passed. When they finally reached the heavy oak double doors of the executive boardroom, the scene waiting for them was absolute chaos.
The pristine, glass-walled boardroom—once the crown jewel of corporate luxury—was utterly demolished. Fine mahogany furniture was smashed, expensive artwork slashed, and the central digital command console ripped entirely from its reinforced wall mounts, exposing a maze of sparking, severed cables.
Standing in the center of the devastated room was Victor Sterling. His clothes were ruined, his silver hair disheveled, and his eyes wide and bloodshot with absolute madness. In his right hand, he clutched a heavy industrial detonator wired directly to a makeshift C4 explosive pack strapped to the main server rack.
“Stay back!” Victor shrieked, waving the detonator frantically as Julian and the tactical team stepped through the shattered doorway. “Don't move another inch, or I will send this entire building straight down into the bedrock!”
Julian stepped forward, putting himself between Victor and Evelyn, who clung quietly to his neck.
“It’s over, Victor,” Julian said, his voice steady and cold. “Marcus is gone, your offshore accounts are frozen, and the federal government has every single patent and financial document you stole. You have nowhere left to run.”
Victor let out a shrill, manic laugh that echoed off the shattered glass walls. “You think a few frozen accounts and federal folders mean I lost? I built this empire with my bare hands! If I can’t have it, nobody will—not me, not your precious mother, and certainly not that bastard child!”
Victor’s thumb hovered directly over the red trigger button of the detonator, his finger twitching with psychotic resolve.

“Bring me the girl,” Victor snarled, pointing the barrel of his gaze directly at Evelyn. “Hand her over, or I push the button right now.”
