Chapter 4: Unraveling the Trust

Marcus helped his sister to her feet, his arm securely around her waist to bear her weight. Once she was balanced, he turned his cold, calculating gaze back toward Julian and Clara. The domestic dispute had instantly transformed into a corporate and legal interrogation, orchestrated by the eldest Vance sibling with chilling precision.
"You brought up the trust, Julian," Marcus said, his tone deceptively conversational. "Let's talk about the trust. Specifically, the clause signed on your wedding day that explicitly states any physical abuse or proven financial malfeasance nullifies your position as managing director and strips you of your stock options."
Julian’s knees buckled slightly. The color drained entirely from his face, leaving him looking ghost-like under the chandelier. "That... that clause was drafted under duress. My lawyers never properly reviewed it—"
"Your high-priced legal team drafted it word for word," Marcus corrected coldly. "You insisted on it to prove your commitment to the family legacy. Karma has a peculiar way of collecting debts, Julian."
Clara took a nervous step backward, her high heels clicking softly against the floor. She began sliding her leather handbag up her forearm, her fingers inching toward the zipper. "Well, if this is a family matter, I should probably excuse myself. I have an early meeting with the board of directors—"
"Stay where you are, Clara," the second security guard said smoothly, stepping directly into her line of sight without drawing a weapon. His voice was calm, but his posture brooked no argument.
Elena stepped forward, standing beside her brother. The bruise on her cheek looked vibrant and angry against her porcelain skin, lending her a fierce, tragic beauty. She looked directly at Clara, her gaze piercing through the facade of designer clothes and expensive perfume. "You don't have a board meeting today, Clara. You were fired from Vance Holdings marketing three weeks ago. Right around the time you and Julian rented that apartment downtown."
Clara’s face went chalk white. Her hand froze on her handbag strap. The carefully constructed persona of the innocent bystander shattered completely, leaving behind a cornered, desperate woman.

Julian looked between Elena and Clara, realizing the web of lies they had all woven had finally tightened into a noose. "We were just trying to secure our future," Julian blurted out defensively, his voice cracking with panic. "You were spending all your time on the foundation, Elena! You neglected me!"
"By running a multi-million-dollar charity?" Elena asked quietly, her voice devoid of emotion. "No, Julian. I was working. While you were planning how to drain the accounts the moment the baby was born."
