Chapter 1

The heavy silence of the luxurious white hallway was shattered by the sharp, stinging slap that echoed off the grand marble staircase. Julian stood frozen, his hand still hovering in the air, his chest heaving as reality rushed in to suffocate him. Elena crumpled against the pristine balustrade, her bare feet sliding slightly on the polished floorboards. The white pleated maternity dress she wore suddenly looked less like a garment of celebration and more like a shroud. She pressed a trembling hand to her bruised cheek, her eyes wide with a mixture of disbelief and absolute terror.
Clara stood a few feet away, her gold satin slip dress catching the chandelier light, her fingers pressed tightly over her mouth in mute shock. She had wanted Julian, but she had never wanted this public devastation.
"You hit me," Elena whispered, her voice cracking with a quiet, devastating vulnerability that cut deeper than any blade.
Julian lowered his hand, his face draining of color as he looked down at his own trembling fingers. "Elena, I didn't mean—it just slipped out, you were driving me insane with those accusations—"
"You hit me," she repeated, her hand dropping to protect her swollen belly, her voice steadying into a cold, terrifying certainty.
Before Julian could step forward to touch her, the heavy double doors at the end of the hall swung open with a definitive, chilling crash. Marcus, the oldest of the Vance brothers, stepped across the threshold, his tall frame encased in a sharp black suit that matched the cold fury in his eyes. Behind him, two equally imposing security specialists flanked the doorway, their expressions carved from granite. Marcus’s gaze locked onto Julian’s raised hand, his jaw tightening until the muscle feathered visibly.
"Step away from our sister," Marcus said, his voice a low, lethal growl that echoed ominously through the cavernous space.

Julian spun around, his eyes swelling with sudden, panic-stricken fear as he recognized the men who had just entered the estate. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.
Beside him, Clara clutched her chest in sheer terror, realizing that the trap they had meticulously laid for Elena had just sprung shut on them instead. Marcus took a slow, calculated step forward, cracking his knuckles.
