Chapter 11: Confessions in the Guest Lodge

A mile away from the main mansion, isolated near the edge of the estate’s sprawling pine forest, sat the guest lodge. It was a rustic yet luxurious stone cabin, usually reserved for visiting dignitaries or weekend hunting parties. Tonight, it served as Julian’s prison.
The heavy timber door was locked from the outside. Inside, the fire in the stone hearth crackled merrily, casting warm light over leather armchairs and a polished oak table. But Julian felt no warmth. He paced frantically across the Persian rug, his white button-down shirt rumpled, his dark hair disheveled, muttering to himself in a panic.
"This is insane," Julian muttered, running his hands through his hair. "They can't hold me here. It’s kidnapping. It’s false imprisonment. I’ll call my lawyers—oh God, they took my phone."
He threw himself down into an armchair, staring blankly at the dancing flames. The reality of what he had done—what he had lost—was finally crashing down upon him with crushing weight. He wasn't just losing access to the Vance fortune; he was losing his social standing, his reputation, his career, and his unborn child.
The heavy iron latch on the front door lifted with a sharp click. Julian jumped to his feet, expecting Marcus or one of the armed guards come to deliver a final ultimatum. Instead, the door swung open to reveal Arthur Vance standing in the threshold, framed by the pouring rain outside.
Arthur stepped inside, closing the heavy timber door behind him. He didn't carry an umbrella, but his dark overcoat was dry, protected by a sleek waterproof lining. He walked slowly toward the fireplace, warming his hands over the flames without looking at Julian.
"Sit down, Julian," Arthur said calmly.
Julian hesitated, his legs shaking slightly, before lowering himself back into the armchair. "Arthur... sir. Please. You have to understand. Clara manipulated me. She showed me forged documents that made it look like Elena was freezing me out of the company—"
"Stop talking," Arthur interrupted softly, holding up a hand. He finally turned his head, fixing his piercing blue eyes on Julian. "Do you take me for a fool, Julian? Do you think I haven't spent forty years managing corporate spies, hostile takeovers, and boardroom traitors?"
Julian swallowed hard, unable to meet the old man's gaze. "I made a mistake. I let ambition blind me."
"Ambition is what built this family," Arthur replied, his voice chillingly steady. "Greed and cruelty are what destroy men like you. You thought you could marry into our bloodline, steal our assets, and discard my daughter like a broken toy."

"I never wanted to hurt Elena," Julian whispered, his voice cracking with genuine remorse. "At least... not physically. I lost control."
"You raised your hand against a pregnant woman in our ancestral home," Arthur said, his voice dropping an octave, carrying the weight of a final judgment. "That is not a mistake, Julian. That is a revelation of your character."
