Chapter 15 - Midnight Execution

The digital clock on the grand courthouse tower clicked silently to 11:59:30 PM. Thirty seconds left.
Elena pulled her smartphone from her pocket. The screen flashed bright white, instantly opening an uninvited live video stream piped directly from the Grand Meridian ballroom’s main stage. There stood Arthur Sterling, framed against the sparkling crystal chandeliers and the sea of watching guests. He held a wireless microphone in one hand, while his other hand hovered dramatically over a sleek digital execution pad resting on the table beside the open white gift box.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the midnight hour has arrived," Arthur’s amplified voice echoed smoothly across the broadcast, carrying a chilling note of absolute victory. "As mandated by our binding corporate charter, all unfulfilled clauses are hereby executed in full. The foundation assets now transfer exclusively to my personal estate."
"Not on my watch," Elena whispered fiercely.
She turned to Judge Miller, who was already holding his pen poised above the open page of the judicial ledger resting on the hood of the wrecked sedan.
"Sign it, Judge!" Elena shouted over the pouring rain. "Execute the injunction!"
Judge Miller slammed the pen down onto the paper, his hand moving with lightning speed to sign the official federal stay just as the clock tower bells began to toll the midnight hour.
Simultaneously, Marcus slammed his fist down onto the enter key of the laptop resting on the car's trunk, uploading the decrypted Catherine Protocol directly to the SEC emergency server portal.
On the live broadcast screen, Arthur’s finger pressed down on the digital execution pad.
For one breathless second, the screen flickered green. Then, a massive red system error warning flashed across the broadcast: FATAL ERROR: JURISDICTIONAL FREEZE ENFORCED. ASSET TRANSFER BLOCKED BY FEDERAL COURT.
Arthur’s confident smile vanished instantly. His jaw went slack, his eyes widening in pure disbelief as the digital pad in front of him short-circuited with a sharp hiss of smoke, sparking brightly before going completely dark.
Across the courthouse plaza, Julian dropped the metal crowbar with a heavy clatter, his hands falling to his sides as his silver tablet buzzed violently in his pocket with a flood of incoming arrest warrants from the federal prosecutor's office.
Catherine walked slowly up to Julian, looking down at the fallen crowbar before lifting her gaze to meet his stunned expression. "Tell Arthur his wedding gift has officially expired."

Sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder by the second as a fleet of federal vehicles turned the corner, their flashing red and blue lights painting the rainy night sky in brilliant strokes of justice.
Elena took a deep, steadying breath, the heavy weight that had crushed her chest for three long years finally lifting into the cool night air. She closed her laptop, turned away from the flashing cameras, and walked up the courthouse steps to stand beside Catherine as the final chapter of Arthur Sterling’s empire came crashing down into the dark.
