Chapter 8: The Confrontation at the Gates

By 9:00 AM, the front gates of the Vance estate were swarmed. News of the canceled billionaire wedding had spread across social media like wildfire. Paparazzi lenses flashed from behind the iron bars, and news vans were parked along the private street.
Suddenly, a black luxury SUV screeched to a halt in front of the gate. Arthur Thorne stepped out, his tailored suit struggling to contain his furious frame, followed by Adriana, who wore large designer sunglasses to hide her rage.
Julian walked down the cobblestone driveway alone, dressed in a casual charcoal sweater, his hands in his pockets. He signaled the security guard to open the pedestrian side gate just enough for them to speak.
"Julian!" Arthur bellowed, his face red with fury. "You have humiliated my daughter! You have made a mockery of our family name in front of the entire country!"
"You did that to yourselves, Arthur," Julian replied calmly across the gate.
"You listen to me, you arrogant punk," Arthur snarled, stepping up against the bars. "I am pulling the Thorne Logistics fleet within the hour. Without our trucks and shipping lanes, your Project Apex tech rollout is dead in the water. You will default on twenty million dollars in retailer contracts."
Adriana pushed forward, lowering her sunglasses to glare at Julian with pure malice. "It's not too late, Julian. Call the press. Tell them it was a misunderstanding. Apologize to my father, sign over the fifteen percent board seat you promised me as a wedding gift, and we can still hold the ceremony tonight. Otherwise, you’re ruined."
Julian looked at the two of them—the billionaire father and his spoiled, merciless daughter. They thought money and power could bend any man to his knees.
"You really think Project Apex relies on you, Arthur?" Julian asked with a faint, chilling smile.
Arthur paused, a hint of unease crossing his features. "What are you talking about?"

"You should check your corporate inbox," Julian said evenly. "Five minutes ago, my board unanimously ratified a contract with Vanguard Shipping. We signed the backup deal six months ago when I noticed discrepancies in your quarterly audits. I don't need your fleet, Arthur. In fact, by noon, the SEC will be looking into your inflated fuel surcharges."
