Chapter 10: Healing in the Sunlight

Two weeks passed. The media frenzy, which had peaked with front-page headlines like *“Tech Titan Jilts Socialite at the Altar to Protect Late Wife’s Legacy,”* finally began to subside.

The Thorne family had retreated into damage control. Arthur Thorne was forced to step down as CEO following a devastating financial audit, and Adriana had hastily fled to a private villa in Europe to escape the relentless public backlash.

Meanwhile, the Vance estate had transformed.

Julian had all the wedding decorations dismantled and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of fresh flowers to local children's hospitals and nursing homes. The eerie silence that had lingered in the house since Clara’s passing was slowly replaced by the sound of laughter.

On a warm Saturday morning, Julian sat on the back patio with a sketchbook in hand, watching Louis and Evelyn plant a small garden beneath the ancient oak tree in the backyard.

"Evelyn, look!" Louis cheered, holding up a small trowel covered in rich, dark soil. "The blue hydrangeas are in the ground! Mom loved blue hydrangeas!"

"They look beautiful, Louis," Evelyn smiled warmly, wiping a smudge of dirt from the boy's cheek with her sleeve. "Your mom would love this garden. It’s going to bloom all summer long."

Julian watched them, his heart swelling. Evelyn had come over every weekend since the incident. She didn't bring luxury gifts or talk about stock prices; she brought art supplies, baked cookies with Louis, and sat with him when he had questions about his mother.

She didn't try to replace Clara. She simply honored her, while creating a safe, loving space for the living.

"Dad! Come help us water them!" Louis yelled, waving his small hands enthusiastically.

Julian set his coffee down, a genuine smile spreading across his face. "Coming, buddy."
