Chapter 14: The Ocean Breeze

The following weekend, the three of them walked along the windswept shore of the private cove where Julian and Clara had once spent their summers. The afternoon sun cast a sparkling blanket of gold over the crashing waves.
Louis was running ahead with a kite, shouting with joy as the colorful nylon bird soared high into the clear blue sky.
Julian and Evelyn walked side by side, their boots sinking into the wet sand.
"It’s peaceful here," Evelyn said, breathing in the salty ocean air. "I haven't seen Louis this happy in a very long time."
Julian stopped walking. He turned to face Evelyn, the coastal wind gently rustling her hair.
"Evelyn," Julian said, his voice steady and full of emotion.
She stopped and looked up at him, sensing the sudden shift in his demeanor. "Yes, Julian?"
Julian reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the vintage blue velvet box. Evelyn’s breath caught in her throat as she recognized it instantly.
"When Louis gave this box to Adriana in that bridal shop, she saw it as an insult," Julian said softly. "She saw it as old junk from a past she wanted to erase. But this box represents everything that matters in this world: memory, loyalty, and the kind of love that protects a child's heart."
He opened the brass clasp, revealing the sapphire pendant resting against the dark blue velvet.
"Clara left a letter inside this box," Julian continued, his eyes locked onto Evelyn’s. "She asked for someone who would love Louis for who he is, and someone who would bring warmth back into our lives. For a long time, I was too blind to see that the person she was praying for was already by our side."
