Chapter 2: The Silent Suite

""The ceremony starts in ten minutes, Daniel!"" Victoria pleaded, her voice rising into a sharp, desperate register. ""The governor is in the front row! Two hundred guests are waiting in the chapel! You can't let a toddler's fantasy ruin the most important day of our lives!""
Daniel did not answer. He bent down with deliberate care, scooping Noah into his arms. The boy wrapped his small arms around his grandfather’s neck, his wet cheek resting against Daniel’s shoulder.
""Marco,"" Daniel commanded.
From the service doorway, Marco, Daniel’s head of security for over twenty years, stepped forward. His dark suit and alert posture stood in stark contrast to the festive floral arrangements lining the hallway.
""Lock the chapel doors,"" Daniel ordered calmly. ""Inform the officiant that the procession is delayed. Escort Ms. Sterling to the executive bridal suite, and ensure no one enters or leaves until I give the word.""
""Daniel, you can't do this to me!"" Victoria cried out as Marco placed a firm, polite hand on her arm. ""This is humiliation! I loved your daughter! I have loved you!""
Daniel walked past her without breaking his stride, carrying his grandson down the private wing toward his personal office suite on the penthouse floor.
Inside the quiet sanctuary of the office, the ambient noise of the wedding below vanished. Daniel set Noah down on a plush leather sofa, handing him a glass of warm water.
With steady, calculated movements, Daniel walked over to his mahogany desk, booted up his laptop, and inserted the black USB drive into the port.
The screen flickered. A single password prompt appeared.
Noah walked over to the desk, his little fingers pointing at the keyboard. ""Mommy said the secret word is the place where we watched the blue whales.""
Daniel’s fingers trembled. He typed: *MONTEREY2024*.
