By spring, the legal threats had completely evaporated. The Sterling corporation issued a terse press release announcing Arthur Sterling’s early retirement due to health reasons, while the company’s board was restructured under independent regulatory oversight.

In Cape Ann, life blossomed with the quiet rhythm of the tides.

Maya reopened her music studio, placing a restored 1920s Steinway grand piano in the cottage's high-ceilinged front room. In the afternoons, the sweet sounds of Bach and Mozart mingled with the roar of the ocean waves. Children from the local fishing village and neighboring towns arrived for lessons, their laughter filling the garden.

Leo and Noah proved to have their mother’s natural ear for music and their father’s methodical patience.

Julian sat on the porch steps, sanding a piece of curved white oak for a baby rocker, watching them through the open French doors.

Clara, now nearly a year old, crawled across the wide cedar porch boards, pulling herself up against Julian’s knee with a triumphant giggle.

Julian lifted her into his arms, kissing her soft cheek. ""Look at your brothers, Clara. They’re playing music for you.""

Clara clapped her tiny hands in rhythm with the piano, her bright hazel eyes reflecting the golden afternoon sun.
