Chapter 1 - The Rag and the Revelation

The bright, ultra-modern living room felt instantly suffocating as the heavy silence broke into jagged pieces. Victoria stood chest to chest with Sarah, her posture rigid in her immaculate tan silk blouse and beige trousers, radiating an aggressive, dominating aura that had intimidated half the county. With a snap of her wrist, Victoria hurled a damp, grey cleaning rag directly into Sarah's face, the coarse fabric smelling faintly of harsh bleach and old dust.
"Clean this house, or get out!" Victoria barked, her voice echoing off the gleaming marble floors and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Sarah caught the dirty rag as it brushed her cheek, pressing it against her skin. For a fleeting second, her soot-stained face and olive-green button-down shirt betrayed total shock, her eyes wide as the grim reality of Victoria’s entitlement sank in. Then, the shock evaporated, replaced by a glacial, unyielding glare that made Victoria involuntarily step back. Sarah slowly lowered the rag, her breathing steady and deliberate.
Victoria reached up, using the corner of the same grey rag to wipe her own mouth in sheer, performative disgust, her eyes bulging with sudden fury at Sarah's defiant posture.
"Daniel bought this house!" Victoria shrieked, her voice cracking slightly as panic began to bleed through her arrogance.
Sarah removed the rag entirely, offering a cold, knowing smirk that twisted her features into something terrifyingly calm. She stepped past Victoria, anchoring herself in the center of the expansive room while Linda, the senior woman in the crisp blue dress, trembled miserably in the background, her hands clutching her chest in absolute terror.
"No," Sarah stated, her tone dropping into a chilling register that silenced the room. "This house belongs to me. My name is the sole owner."
Victoria stumbled backward, her breath catching in her throat. Her eyes dilated in absolute horror and panic as she stared at Sarah, gasping aloud in sheer disbelief.
"Linda," Victoria shrieked, whipping her head around to glare at the trembling older woman. "You said Sarah didn't know... didn't know what? About Daniel's property transfer?"

Linda opened her mouth to speak, but no sound came out, her pale face turning the color of ash as a heavy front-door latch clicked open behind them.
