Chapter 15: The Light in the Hallway**

Ten years later, the Sterling mansion buzzed with life and celebration. It was Clara’s seventeenth birthday, and the entire house was filled with friends, music, and the delicious aroma of Mrs. Gable’s famous baked pastries.
Clara stood at the top of the grand staircase, wearing a simple, elegant dark green dress. Around her neck rested the restored silver locket, gleaming brightly under the chandeliers. She watched the guests below, her heart full of gratitude for the life they had rebuilt from the ashes of fear.
A tall, ten-year-old boy bounded up the stairs two at a time, nearly tripping over his own long limbs.
"Hey, slow down, Leo!" Clara laughed, catching him by the arm.
Leo grinned, adjusting his collar. "Dad said I had to come get you before they bring out the cake. Plus, I wanted to give you this before everyone else starts crowding around."
He pulled a small, handcrafted wooden box from his pocket and handed it to her. Clara opened it to find a carved wooden charm shaped like an oak leaf, with the words *To My Guardian* engraved on the back.
"I made it in woodshop," Leo said, looking a little shy. "Dad told me what happened when I was a baby. About how you saved me on the balcony."
Clara looked at her little brother, seeing the bright, healthy, and happy boy he had become. She wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug. "I would do it a thousand times over, Leo."

David walked up the stairs, joining them on the landing. He placed an arm around both of his children, looking down at the warm, welcoming home they had created together.
The shadow in the marble hall was gone forever, replaced by an enduring light of love, loyalty, and family.
