Three months later, the legal proceedings reached their final conclusion. David attended the court hearing accompanied by the family’s veteran estate attorney. Clara remained at home with Mrs. Gable and Leo, sheltered from the final bitter spectacle of Vanessa's downfall.
In the courtroom, Vanessa looked a shadow of her former self. Dressed in standard issue county denim, her vanity stripped away, she sat quietly beside her public defender. The evidence against her was overwhelming: the forged trust amendments, the offshore accounts, and the chilling testimony of her attempt to abduct Leo from the balcony.
When the judge handed down a ten-year sentence for aggravated child endangerment and corporate fraud, Vanessa didn't even look up. Her schemes had collapsed completely under the weight of Eleanor’s foresight and Clara’s courage.
Outside the courthouse, reporters swarmed David, thrusting microphones in front of his face.
"Mr. Sterling! Will you be suing the academy that facilitated the false enrollment?" one asked.
"What is your message to the public after this betrayal?" asked another.
David paused on the courthouse steps, adjusting his coat. He looked directly into the news cameras with quiet dignity.
"Greed makes people blind to the value of human connection," David said clearly. "My family was almost torn apart because we allowed fear and ambition to replace love and honesty. But true strength isn't found in wealth or control—it's found in the courage of a child who refused to give up on her brother. My focus now is entirely on my children."
