Chapter 14: Growing Roots**

A year passed, bringing with it the steady healing that only time and love can provide.

Leo was now a energetic toddler, taking his first wobbly steps across the hardwood floors of the restored living room. Clara, now seven, had become his favorite person in the entire world. Wherever Clara went, Leo followed, babbling happily and holding onto her hand.

The gloomy atmosphere that had once haunted the Sterling estate was completely erased. The cold marble hallway where Clara had once wept in terror was now covered with soft, colorful runners where the children played with wooden blocks and toy trains.

David had established the *Eleanor Sterling Foundation*, a charitable trust dedicated to providing legal aid and safe housing for vulnerable children and families in need. Clara had attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony as the guest of honor, proudly holding Leo's hand as David spoke about the importance of protecting every child’s voice.

Mrs. Gable was officially named the estate manager, treated not as hired help, but as a cherished member of the extended family.

One sunny Saturday afternoon, David watched from the veranda as Clara helped Leo plant a small oak sapling in the center of the garden. The children’s hands were covered in rich, dark soil, their faces glowing with sunlight.

"Will it grow as big as the house, Daddy?" Clara called out, brushing a stray lock of hair from her forehead.

"Even bigger, Clara," David called back with a warm smile. "Because its roots are planted in the right place."
