“You won’t shoot,” Clara said, her voice echoing clearly off the damp concrete pillars.

Julian laughed, a cold, barking sound. “And why is that? Do you think the press upstairs will hear a suppressed shot over the sound of diesel generators? By noon, the narrative will be simple: a disgruntled former employee broke in, a tragic altercation occurred, and the hero Julian Sterling survived.”

“They might not hear a gunshot,” Clara replied calmly, tapping the screen of the smartwatch on her wrist. “But they are currently listening to every single word you say.”

Julian’s smile froze.

Clara looked directly into Julian’s widening eyes. “The moment I stepped onto this property, the laptop established a wireless connection to the media broadcast switcher on the main stage. The structural blueprints, your bank transfers to the corrupt safety board, and your confession are broadcasting live on three major news networks right now.”

Upstairs, a sudden cacophony of shouting voices, camera shutters, and urgent commotion erupted from the press gallery.
