Chapter 7: The True Wealth

Richard dropped his phone onto the pavement. The screen cracked, reflecting his panicked, sweat-slicked face.
"You... you sabotaged my company over a dilapidated shelter?" Richard yelled, his voice cracking with desperation. "Do you have any idea how many millions this project was worth?"
Julian walked up until he was standing inches from Richard. "Money is just paper, Thorne. It only holds value when it builds people up, not when it crushes them to build glass towers for the vain."
The bulldozer operators, realizing the funding had evaporated, switched off their massive engines. The sudden quiet across the street was filled with the cheers of the neighborhood families. Mrs. Gable wiped her tears and rushed down the steps, pulling Julian into a tight, warm hug.
"Thank you, son," she wept softly. "You don't know what this means to us."
"I do, Mrs. Gable," Julian replied with genuine warmth, hugging her back. "My mother used to bring me to a center just like this when we had nowhere else to turn."
In the back of a luxury SUV parked across the street, Elena watched the scene unfold. She saw Julian surrounded by laughing children and grateful elders, glowing with a nobility no designer suit could ever buy. She looked at Richard, who was now screaming into his phone on the curb, ruined and alone.
