Chapter 12: Letters from the Soil

> *"Dear Julian,*
> *I am writing this from a small desk in the dormitory of the vocational academy. Today, I completed my certification in sustainable agriculture and community management.*
> *When I first arrived here, my hands had never known hard work. My nails broke, my back ached, and my pride screamed at me to run away. But for the first time in ten years, I fell asleep without anxiety medication. I woke up with the sunrise, planted seeds in the soil, and watched life grow from nothing.*
> *I used to think that diamonds made a woman shine. Now I know that sweat, purpose, and helping another human being are the only things that create lasting light.*
> *I knitted this scarf during the winter evenings. It isn't designer cashmere, but every stitch carries my deepest gratitude for not saving me with money, but saving me with truth.*
> *Always your friend,* > *Elena"*

Julian smiled warmly, feeling the soft yarn beneath his fingers. He folded the letter carefully and placed it in his desk drawer alongside his mother’s old photographs.

Wealth, he realized, was never about how much you accumulated in your accounts. It was measured entirely by how many lives you helped lift out of the dark.
