Chapter 3 - The Confession on Screen

The laptop screen cast a harsh blue glow across Julian’s face as the video played in absolute, harrowing silence. On the monitor, Marcus sat in a stark, windowless room, his tailored suit rumpled and his eyes darting nervously toward the corner of the frame.
"Julian, if you're watching this, then Elena has already executed phase one," Marcus said, his voice cracking with a mix of exhaustion and genuine terror. "I’m sorry. I had no choice. She found the ledger from the 2018 Cayman restructuring."
Julian gripped the edge of the desk so hard his knuckles turned white. The Cayman restructuring was supposed to be airtight—a ghost transaction known only to him and Marcus.
"She didn't just stumble upon it, Julian," Marcus continued, leaning closer to the camera lens as if whispering a state secret. "She orchestrated it. She’s been building this case against you since the day we signed the merger. Every contract, every offshore wire, every signature—she forged your intent to make it look like sole embezzlement."
Julian shook his head in violent denial, whispering to the empty room, "That's impossible. Elena doesn't know corporate finance; she's an art curator."
"That was her cover story," Marcus spat out bitterly on the screen. "Her family didn't lose their fortune in the market crash ten years ago, Julian. You bought your company using assets liquidated from her grandfather’s estate—assets she spent the last decade tracking back to your personal ledger. She didn't marry you for love. She married you to reclaim her family's empire piece by piece, starting with your blood."
The video cut to black abruptly, leaving Julian staring at his own pale reflection in the glass of the monitor. The room felt suffocating, the walls seeming to close in as the foundation of his entire adult life dissolved into a calculated lie.

Before Julian could process the betrayal, his cell phone buzzed violently against the wooden desk. The screen lit up with an unknown caller ID, and a synthesized voice whispered through the speaker before he could even say hello.
