Chapter 14 - The Noon Address

The grand auditorium on the ground floor of the Sterling Tower was packed to absolute capacity. Hundreds of journalists, international tech analysts, and financial reporters sat in breathless silence, the flashing red lights of television cameras painting the room in an erratic, pulsing glow.

Clara walked out onto the elevated stage from the wings, her long dark wavy hair falling smoothly over her shoulders. She wore the exact same sleeveless black evening gown from the gala the night before. She had refused to change, and she had deliberately left the dried red wine stain visible across her chest—a stark, unedited symbol of the violence done to her and the resilience that brought her back.

A collective murmur rippled through the press corps as the cameras zoomed in on the stain, instantly recognizing the iconic symbol of the society gala where the empire had nearly shattered less than twenty-four hours earlier.

Clara stepped up to the polished wooden podium, resting her hands lightly on either side of the microphone. She didn't smile, nor did she project false humility. She simply stood with absolute, unshakable authority, her dark eyes sweeping across the sea of lenses.

“Yesterday evening, this corporation stood on the brink of total collapse,” Clara began, her voice clear, resonant, and steady, echoing through the vast auditorium without a single tremor. “It was dismantled not by an external economic crash, but by internal greed, systemic corruption, and the calculated theft of public trust.”

In the front row, Thaddeus sat quietly, watching her with a look of profound respect. Behind the press corps, federal agents stood guard near the exits, ensuring that no unauthorized corporate agents could interfere.

“For the past three years, my work, my patents, and my identity were suppressed by men who believed that power is measured by how much you can steal and how many people you can silence,” Clara continued, her tone cutting through the quiet room like a scalpel. “They built their fortress on stolen foundations, believing that a woman working in the shadows would never have the teeth to reclaim her house.”

She paused, letting the silence settle heavily over the audience before delivering the turning point.

“Effective immediately, all proprietary navigation patents held by this conglomerate are being transitioned to open-source global infrastructure,” she announced, her voice unwavering. “No government, no corporation, and no individual will ever weaponize this technology again. It belongs to the public. It belongs to everyone.”

A deafening explosion of camera shutters and gasps erupted from the press corps. Reporters leaped to their feet, shouting questions simultaneously, their voices blending into a chaotic roar of disbelief and awe.

Clara didn't flinch. She stood tall, her posture unyielding as she looked directly into the primary camera lens broadcasting live to millions of viewers across the globe.

“The era of corporate silence is over,” she concluded quietly, turning away from the podium.

As she walked off the stage toward the private exit, the heavy steel doors swung open to reveal a solitary figure standing in the shadows of the corridor, waiting for her in the dim light.
