Chapter 12

The boardroom dissolved into chaos. Two of the vice presidents stood up, shouting denials and hurling accusations of corporate sabotage at Julian and Clara. But their anger lacked conviction; it was the desperate noise of drowning men thrashing against a rising tide.
Arthur Pendelton slumped back into his leather chair, the fight entirely drained out of him. He looked old, tired, and defeated. He knew the game was over. The paperwork in front of him wasn't just a set of accusations; it was an airtight indictment that could not be talked away or settled with a quiet corporate payout.
"How long did you know?" Arthur whispered, staring blankly at the polished wood of the table.
"Long enough to realize that an institution built on deception eventually collapses under its own weight," Julian replied quietly. "You all had choices. You chose greed over integrity, and now you have to face the consequences."
Marcus Vance took a threatening step forward, his hand slipping inside his jacket toward where he kept his holster. "You're not walking out of here with those files, Sterling. None of you are."
Before Marcus could draw his weapon, the boardroom doors flew open wide. Agent Miller and four federal marshals stepped into the room, their weapons holstered but their presence absolute and undeniable.
"Marcus Vance, step away from the table," Agent Miller commanded, his hand resting on his service belt. "You’re under arrest for conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and financial fraud."
Marcus froze, his hand hovering near his jacket. He looked around the room, realizing every exit was blocked, every ally had collapsed, and his family’s empire had officially crumbled to dust. Slowly, deliberately, he pulled his hand out and raised it in the air as the federal marshals moved in, snapping handcuffs around his wrists with practiced efficiency.
The remaining board members sat in stunned silence as Marcus was hauled out of the room, his boots dragging slightly against the expensive carpet.
Arthur Pendelton looked up at Julian, his voice trembling. "What happens to the bank now, Julian?"
May you like
"It gets rebuilt," Julian said simply. "From the ground up."
