Chapter 11

The morning sun rose over Manhattan, casting long, sharp shadows across the polished granite facade of Meridian Trust. By eight o'clock, the executive boardroom on the twentieth floor was already filled with tension.

The massive oval table of dark rosewood was surrounded by five regional vice presidents—all immaculately dressed men and women in expensive designer suits, whispering quietly among themselves. At the head of the table sat Julian Sterling, his expression carved from granite, staring straight ahead with absolute calm.

The heavy double doors swung open precisely at eight-thirty. Marcus Vance walked in, not in his security uniform, but in a sharp tailored dark suit that mirrored Julian’s. He took a seat near the back of the room, his eyes scanning the table with cold hostility before landing squarely on Clara, who stood quietly by the side door holding her leather portfolio.

"Julian," Arthur Pendelton, the senior vice president and longest-serving board member, spoke up, his voice dripping with condescension. "We understand you’ve called this emergency session to discuss yesterday's regrettable incident with Ms. Vance. We have already drafted a resolution condemning her actions and ensuring her immediate termination without severance."

"That won't be necessary, Arthur," Julian said, his voice carrying clearly across the silent room. "The matter of Eleanor Vance is already being handled by federal authorities. Today’s meeting is about a much larger infection."

Murmurs rippled around the table. Arthur’s face hardened. "What are you implying, Julian?"

Julian didn't answer verbally. Instead, he raised his hand and gestured toward Clara.

Clara stepped forward, walking steadily toward the head of the table. She opened her leather portfolio, pulled out six crisp, identical manila folders, and began distributing them to each member of the board.

"What is the meaning of this?" a female vice president demanded, pushing the folder away without opening it. "We are not interested in paperwork from junior compliance clerks."

"Open the folder," Julian commanded softly, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Page four. Section three. Read the transaction summaries."

Slowly, reluctantly, Arthur Pendelton opened the folder. As his eyes scanned the first page, the color completely drained from his face. The papers detailed every illicit wire transfer, every hidden shell company, and every domestic real estate acquisition tied directly to his personal accounts and those of his colleagues.

"This... this is fabricated," Arthur stammered, his hand trembling slightly as he dropped the papers back onto the rosewood table. "These are forged documents!"

"They are verified by federal blockchain audits and internal bank ledgers," Clara stated clearly, her voice echoing in the dead silence of the room. "Every transaction is timestamped, signed, and cross-referenced with your personal tax filings."

Marcus Vance stood up abruptly from the back of the room, his chair scraping loudly against the floor. "This auditor is a fraud! She broke into secure files and planted false evidence!"

"Sit down, Marcus," Julian said, not even turning his head to look at him. "Your name is on page nine."
