Chapter 13 - The Federal Raid and the Final Arrest

"Federal Marshals! Nobody move!" a booming voice echoed through the steam tunnel as a dozen tactical officers in full riot gear swarmed into the archive room, their weapons raised and laser sights locked onto Pendelton and his mercenaries.

The two private mercenaries dropped their assault rifles instantly, raising their hands behind their heads as they were forced to the concrete floor by the tactical team.

Arthur Pendelton froze with his hand hovering just inches above the detonator switch. He looked around the room, realizing in a single agonizing second that his decades of corruption, murder, and corporate manipulation had finally caught up to him.

"It's over, Arthur," David Vance announced, stepping out from behind the tactical team with a thick folder of federal arrest warrants signed by a federal magistrate.

Pendelton slowly lowered his hand, a bitter, defeated laugh escaping his lips as the steel handcuffs were snapped tightly around his wrists. "You may have won this round, Clara, but the board will never accept you. Marcus still controls the proxy votes for the morning meeting."

"Marcus won't be attending the board meeting tomorrow," a cold, familiar voice echoed from the entrance of the vault.

Everyone turned to see Marcus Vance being led into the room by two federal agents, his designer suit rumpled and his face pale with panic. "Clara... please! I was forced into this! Pendelton threatened to ruin me!"

"You ruined yourself the moment you signed your name to a murder conspiracy and a embezzlement scheme," Clara said, looking at her uncle with absolute clinical detachment. "Your proxy votes were legally forfeited the moment your offshore debt accounts were seized by anti-money-laundering protocols an hour ago."

Marcus slumped against the concrete wall, sliding down into a pathetic heap as he realized he had lost everything—his wealth, his status, and his freedom.

Elizabeth watched the scene with a quiet sense of closure, placing a gentle hand on her daughter's shoulder. "Your father would have been proud of you today, Clara. You didn't just protect our legacy; you reclaimed it."

Clara nodded, slipping her terminal back into her leather bag as the federal agents hauled Pendelton and Marcus out toward the surface extraction lifts. The nightmare that had haunted their family for twelve years was finally drawing to a close.

Or so they thought.

As the last of the tactical officers cleared the room, a blinking red notification light flashed on the abandoned control console near the shattered server racks. Clara walked over, tapping the screen to inspect the incoming data packet. It wasn't from Pendelton, and it wasn't from Julian. It was an automated ping from a secure offshore satellite network bearing her late father's private cryptographic signature—a signature that had supposedly been dead for over a decade.
