Chapter 6 - The Iron Cells of Justice

"You have the right to remain silent."

The metallic click of the handcuffs echoing inside the private office felt like a death knell for the Vance empire. Victoria Vance stood rigidly, her designer blazer suddenly feeling like a straitjacket as the federal marshals stepped closer. Her dark high bun remained intact, but her posture had crumpled from arrogant defiance into sheer, paralyzed disbelief. She looked toward Arthur for help, but her uncle merely turned his face away toward the rain-streaked window, offering no sanctuary or comfort.

"This is an absolute outrage," Victoria hissed through clenched teeth, her red lipstick smeared slightly as she tried to maintain a shred of dignity. "I demand to speak to my legal counsel before you take another step. My firm contributes millions to this city's economy."

"Your firm was liquidated thirty minutes ago under a federal emergency injunction," the lead marshal replied flatly, taking Victoria by the arm and guiding her toward the door.

Maya did not move from her spot across the mahogany desk. She watched the once-feared boutique owner being led away in disgrace, her expression remaining entirely neutral. There was no cruel smirk of victory on the young girl's face, only the cold, unyielding gaze of a true sovereign reclaiming what was stolen from her lineage. As the marshals escorted Victoria past the velvet drapes and out toward the waiting transport vehicles, the heavy glass doors of Vance Luxury slammed shut with a finality that shook the crystal chandeliers overhead.

Arthur stepped closer to Maya, his weathered face etched with deep sorrow. "You've broken her spirit, Maya. But what happens to the employees who had nothing to do with her crimes? The tailors, the clerks, the cashiers?"

Maya turned her head slowly, her bare feet making soft contact with the floor as she faced her uncle. "They will be taken care of, Arthur. Every innocent worker will receive full severance and an option to stay under new management. Cruelty dies with Victoria. But the business rebuilds through honesty."

Marcus stepped forward from the shadows, bowing slightly before speaking. "Miss Vance, the federal prosecutors have seized the downtown accounts. The media is already gathering outside the precinct. They want a statement from the rightful owner."

Maya looked down at her simple cotton dress, brushing a stray thread from the fabric. She walked toward the grand entrance where the harsh glare of camera flashes had begun to illuminate the storefront windows.

"Let them look," Maya said quietly. "The truth is finally coming to light."
